Gr. baptidzo, from bapto, to dip (Luke 16:24; Revelation 19:13; John 13:26); to overwhelm with suffering (Matthew 20:22-23; Luke 12:50); to bury into (Romans 6:3-7; Colossians 2:12) regardless of the element used. Read Acts 8:38.
A. The true New Testament teaching on baptism:
1. Bapto, the root word for baptize and baptism, means to dip; dip under; stink; dip in; immerse; plunge; and to cover wholly with liquid. It is used 4 times in scripture:
1. Dip finger in water (Luke 16:24)
2. Dip bread in gravy (twice in John 13:26)
3. Garment dipped in blood to dye it (Revelation 19:13)
2. Baptidzo. derived from bapto, to make whelmed or wholly wet immerse; submerge; sink; plunge; to dip under; and to baptize. It appears 80 times in the New Testament and is used thus:
1. Baptized in the river Jordan ( Matthew 3:6; Mark 1:5, 9)
2. Baptized with (Gr. in) water (Matthew 3:11; mark 1:8; John 1:26, 31, 33)
3. When he was baptized, went up out of the water (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Acts 8:38-39)
4. Baptized in the cloud and in the sea (1 Corinthians 10:2)
5. Baptized you with (Gr. in) the Holy Ghost (Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; Acts 1:5; 11:16)
6. Two times of 80 it is trans. wash with the idea of dipping or thoroughly cleansing that which was washed (Mark 7:4; Luke 11:38)
7. It is trans. Baptist one time (Mark 6:14) and baptized one time (John 10:40), meaning dipper and dipped
8. It is trans. baptized, to dip under; whelm; literally, to dip wholly, 76 times (Matthew 3:6-16; 20:22-23; 28:19; Mark 1:4; 10:38-19; 11:30; Luke 3:7-21; 7:29-30; 12:50; John 1:25-33; 3:22-26; 4:1-2: Acts 1:5; 2:38, 41; 8:12-16, 36-38; 9:18; 10:47-48; 11:16; 16:15, 33; 18:18; 19:3-5; 22:16; Romans 6:3; 1 Corinthians 1:13-17; 10:2; 12:13; 15:29; Galatians 3:27)
3 Baptisma, that which is dipped. It is used 22 times and always trans. baptism (Matthew 3:7; 20:22-23; 21:25; Mark 1:4; 10:38-39; 11:30; Luke 3:3; 7:29; 12:50; 20:4; Acts 1:22; 10:37; 13:24; 18:25; 19:3-4: Romans 6:4; Ephesians 4:5; Colossians 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21)
There are 7 different baptisms (Matthew 3:6). All baptisms are by burial (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12) which means by dipping, according to facts above Baptism does no remit sins.
4 Baptismos, a dipping in water; a baptism. It is trans, baptism (Hebrews 6:2); washing (Mark 7:4, 8); and washings (Hebrews 9:10). These washings refer to the many ceremonial cleansings
5 baptistes, a baptizer; one who dips; a dyer. It is trans. Baptist 14 times (Matthew 3:1; 11:11-12; 14:2, 8; 16:14; 17:13; Mark 6:24-25; 8:28; Luke 7:20, 28, 33; 9:19)
7 Baptism in Scripture:
1 John's baptism in water (Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3; 7:29-30; John 1:31-33; 3:23-26; 10:40; Acts 1:5; 11:16; 19:3).
2. Christ's baptism in water (John 3:224:1-2)
3. Baptism in suffering (Luke 12:50)
4. Baptism in the cloud and in the sea (1 Corinthians 10:2)
5. Christian baptism in water (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38-41; 8:12-16; 36-38; 9:18; 10:47-48; 16:15, 33; 18:8; 19:5; 22:16; 1 Corinthians 1:13-17; 1 Peter 3:21)
6. Baptism into Christ and into His body (Romans 6:3-7; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12)
7. Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11, 14; 20:22-23; Mark 1:8; 10:38-39; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; 7:37-39; Acts 1:5; 11:16; 19:2-3)
3 Baptism for Believers:
1. Into Christ or into His body at repentance and the new birth (no.6, above). Called "one baptism" (Ephesians 4:5), because it is the only baptism that saves the soul and brings into the body of Christ.
2. Water Baptism after one is saved (no.5, above and...)
3. Spirit baptism, the enduement of power for service, it takes place before water baptism (Acts 10:44-48) or after it (Acts 1:4-8; 2:1-11; 8:12-21; 19:1-7). The Holy Spirit is the agent to baptize into Christ and into His body (1 Corinthians 12:13); Christ is the agent to baptize in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11; John 1:33-33); and the minister is the agent to baptize into water (Matthew 28:19)
Matthew 3:11--"I indeed
baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier
than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy
Ghost, and with fire."
10 Reasons forgiveness not by WATER:
1. Gr. eis, a preposition trans. with baptism "unto" (Matthew 3:11), and "for" (because of, by reason of,, on account of) in Mark 1:4; Luke 3:3; Acts 2:38. Eis is translated "for" (because of) 84 times; "for this same purpose" (Romans 9:17; Colossians 4:8); "for this cause" (John 18:37; 1 Peter4:6) "for this purpose" (Acts 26:16; 1 John3:8); and "for that intent" (Acts 9:21)
2. On all occasions confession of sins was required and was made before baptism (Matthew 3:8, 11; Mark 11:5; Luke 3:8-14)
3. Only believers were baptized after repentance and faith on Christ (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38, 41; 8:12-13, 37; 16:14-15, 31-33; 18:8; 19:1-7), and some cases, after receiving the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17-18; 10:44-48)
4. Christ who knew no sin was baptized: Christ submitted to baptism for two reasons: 1. To fulfill righteousness (v15). 2. To be manifest to Israel (John 1:31)
5. Only a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Peter 3:21)
6. Not essential to salvation (1 Corinthians 1:13-21)
7. Faith in the blood of Christ brings remission of sins (Matthew 26:28; Romans 3:24-25; 4:1-25; 5:1-11; 8:2; 10:4-10; 1 Corinthians 15:1-5; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-9; Galatians 3:19-29; John 3:16; Acts 10:43; 13:38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:18-21; 1 John 1:9; 5:1)
8. Old Testament saints, including John and all in Luke 1:15, 41, 46, 67, 2:25-38 who wer filled with the Spirit were saved without water baptism
9. Christ forgave sins without baptism (Matthew 9:1-7; Luke 7:36-50; 18:9-14; 19:1-9; 23:43; John 4:49-53; 7:31; 8:30-31; 11:45; 12:11, 42; Acts 3:1-11, 16; 4:10-12; Etc.)
